Want to remove the bubbly or faded window film in your car and have it replaced with new ones? Removing car window film may seem like an easy task, but you will have to be extra careful to avoid damage to the glass window.

The window film is installed with removable adhesive so it can be easily removed, except for the rear window. What makes rear window film removal a challenging task is the delicate defrost lines that run across the window under the tinting. If any of the window films breaks off, you can't use any kind of tool to uninstall it. Is there an easy way to remove it without damaging the defrost lines?

You will have to be extra careful not to damage the defrost lines when removing rear window film. The following steps will help you remove the rear car window film properly.

  • Get a thick black garbage bag and cut it open. The large plastic sheet should be enough to cover the whole rear window.
  • Spray water on the exterior side of the window and place the plastic sheet on top. Smooth the plastic sheet down against the glass and trim the edges until the plastic perfectly fits the window.
  • Take it off the outside of the window and reapply it inside so it is touching the tint. Spray water on the window before applying the plastic on and use a squeegee to secure the plastic against the tint.
  • Heat up the tint with a heat gun and start pealing. Use a razor blade to peel back one of the top corners of the tint. Be careful not to touch the defroster lines with a razor blade to avoid damaging them.
  • Remove the film and the plastic down and away from the window using long, firm motions. Work slowly to carefully remove the film without shredding it into pieces. In case the tint seems hard to remove, heat it for more time until the adhesive softens and easier to peel. This process is best done on a hot day.
  • Finally, wipe down the inside of the glass window with a clean cloth after tint removal.

You may also opt to have a tinting specialist do window tint removal Woodend because they have the tools and experience to remove the rear window film right. If you try to remove the rear window film, you might risk damaging then defrost lines.
