Car Window Tinting - What Is The Darkest Tint?

12/5/2022

WHAT IS THE DARKEST TINT?
You see cars have tinted windows, you may be wondering how it works and what the method is applied when you get your windows tinted. When tint is properly applied to your vehicle, the sun’s heat and its harmful UV rays will not directly get in contact with you and your car interior, which will make your vehicle look cooler.

Professional detailer do some preparation before they place films on your car window. They clean the interior and exterior windows thoroughly. They will make sure that it is very clean and remove even the tiniest specs. Application of tint on filth-free surface will not result in air bubbles.

Once the cleaning is done, the glass will get treated and a thin layer of polymer film will be attached. The technician will need to properly measure and cut the film slightly larger than the window to make sure that the entire surface can be covered. This will be trimmed down later on. After the film is applied, a chemical solution on the film and the film liner will be removed.

Can you go darker?

In Australia, window tint is legal to use up to a particular darkness level. Most states and territories have similar window tint laws, with the exception of Northern Territory and Victoria. So before you decide go with darker window tint it would be better understand what is the darkest tint allowed in your area. Fortunately, most states and territories have these things in common:

  • 35% VLT is the limit for front side windows in all states and territories
  • Most state and territory allow a strip across the top 10% of your windscreen, that can't go below the top reach of your wipers. However, tinting the windscreen is not permitted in WA.
  • 20% VLT is legal for back side and rear windows
  • Tint reflection to 10% is allowed in all states and territories except for NSW, where reflective tint is not permitted.
